Sorry, I guess I wasn't clear.  I need an example.  I did check the man...take a look 
at what I'm doing:


[root@matrix thomas]# date -R
Fri, 30 Mar 2001 16:26:12 -0500
[root@matrix thomas]# date +%Z --set="0800"
EST
[root@matrix thomas]# date -R
Fri, 30 Mar 2001 08:00:04 -0500

See, "-0500" don't change....the following don't work either:

[root@matrix thomas]# date +%z --set="0800"
-0500
