I will have a few comments and RFC about up2date later.  Right now, the first
thing I would do is try to connect with ssh -v brokenmachine

THe -v tels it to be verbose and most of the time leads me in the direction of
the problem.  Also look in /etc/ssh for any rpmsave type files.  the update
process might have (probably did) replace(d) your config files and if they were
different from the default thatn that maight be the problem too.   Of course
looking in /var/log/messages on both machines never hurts.
