Looks like an anti-virus company trying to drum up business. There are
a couple of big problems with the story. The first is that a normal
user can not change most of the programs on the system. They can only
change any programs they own. Very few users have executable programs
of their own.
The second program has to do with the way files are accessed in Linux,
compared to Windows. It takes completely different code to modify
files under the two systems.
A third problem is that the headers for a binary file to run under
windows and to run under Linux are different, so the same file could not
run on both. A java program could, but that has different problems.
Besides, the story says it was written in assemble...
