I work with a lot of opensource projects which use database backends.
Most of them use mysql so it's kind of necessary for me... a lot of them
are beginning to implement database layers which make your choice of
database immaterial. For now the MoonGroup site runs on mysql and I've
invested a lot of time into it so I won't changing it soon...
Prior to mysql changing their license I only used postgres but once they
did the volume of app's available for mysql is bigger so I gravitated
that way.
