Yes and no.  No in that is you want to save a file that is named:

        File.txt  (notice the mixed case)

it will get recorded as FILE.TXT, i.e., only using the 8.3 name entry.

If you use the mtools suite of programs, there is no mounting necessary
AND the File.txt will have both the short and long name entries.

Don't mount, use mtools.
