I am not insulted, but yes all the other machines are configured and working
via TCP/IP. I am dual booting the machines with Windows and I am able to
access the network in Windows. After I put the entry in the host file I was
able to ping the address, "10.10.10.20."

Not as far as I know, and it wouldn't make much sense anyway, visit

FreeS/WAN site, they explain a lot.

So... before you put your hostname in /etc/hosts, you couldn't ping
the
IP address? Or you couldn't ping by host name?
Do you know that your hardware is good? Sounds to me like
networking is
properly configured but you don't have a good connection to the rest
of
the net. Network cables flake out all the time...
Don't mean to insult your intelligence, but are you familiar with
the
basic rules of TCP/IP? For instance, you do know that your other
machines will have to have addresses on the same subnet, right?
