A linux box is any system running linux.  A linux workstation would be a
system that's been configured to be a workstation, rather than a server.
That doesn't preclude it from being able to act as a server, but its
primary use was to be a workstation.

Next time you go to install linux, check out the initial options...KDE
Workstation, Gnome Workstation, Server, Laptop, and Custom.
