Makes perfect sense to me (at least to my tired eyes), since "t-echo"
gets expanded before the shell ever sees "this". So:
$ t-echo this
is seen as 'echo $1 is the first variable this'. Of course, $1 here
is null, so you're left with 'echo is the first variable this', which
is exactly what you got ...
