Oops, sorry - I made a couple of other modifications that I forgot to
tell you about. Try changing your system call to look like this:
system("scp2 -p -q $DIR jake\@home:$DIR")
&& die "scp2 failed: $!\n";
Notice the double quotes and escaped @. That worked for me, but of
course I had to exchange your paths for my own.
