I forgot: the correct syntax then, I suppose, would be mount -t hfs /dev/zip /zip, you 
can also try mount -t auto /dev/zip /zip and let mount try to figure it out for you. 
If you still can't get it working have a look at freshmeat for utilities to help ya 
out..
