I would take a look in /etc/modules.conf (or /etc/conf.modules) and look
for a line "alias eth0 <name of nic driver>".  Kudzu normaly will create
this for you.

What does lsmod show?   Also, have you configured the network?  Try
running netconfig, or netcfg.

This is not necessary.  (And not very helpfull.)  This is not Windows.
There are very few problems that call for re-installing!

You have not said anything about checking in /etc/conf.modules for the
alias line for eth0 or about running netconfig.  It would also help if
we knew the brand of NIC.  But it sounds like your best bet is to log in
as root,  start X if you don't use the GUI login, and run
control-pannel.
