I keep mail in imap maildir style mailboxes (i.e. one file per message, one dir per imap mailbox) once the mail server was an AMD K6-2 300MHz/ 128MB RAM, 40GB IDE harddrive there was a small delay while the mail clients updated their message counts even on 30k msgs now the mail server is Athlon 900MHz, 256MB RAM, 40GB SCSI drive one 30k msgs maildir takes up to 20 minutes to update the message counts how can you explain that ?
