Sounds like trying to print PostScript to a non-PostScript printer. You
don't have the print filter set up correctly to translate PostScript to
what your printer understands.

Sounds like the /var/spool/lpd/lp directory isn't there, or doesn't have
the correct permissions. It should be:
drwxr-xr-x 2 root lp 1024 Nov 29 21:10 lp
