since upgrading my work box to RH7, the GNOME "lock screen" function
hasn't worked unless I first run xscreensaver from a command line.  This
doesn't bother me so much, but soon the rest of the shop is going to
upgrade to RH7 and one of the strategies is to dupe my disk, so I'd like
to understand this issue.

I guess what I really want to know is, where does xscreensaver normally
get started under Red Hat?  On my home box (which works fine) I see the
process is owned by init, so I assume it's started along with the basic
X services (either gdm or the user session), but past that I'm stuck.
