nothing special.  linux software raid should work with any hard
drives/block devices.  it'll be easiest if you get 2 identical drives.  if
you use ide drives, make sure to put them on separate ide controllers or
you might get some nasty performance, but since you mentioned scsi, you
don't have to worry about that.

there are hardware raid options as well, if you don't want to use linux
software raid.  mylex hardware raid cards are rather popular and seem to
work well.

either way would be fine.  i have a few machines using linux software
(kernel) raid, and they work like champs.  i also have one or two using a
mylex card, and they work like champs too.  redhat 7.0 supports both
software raid and mylex cards.  redhat 6.2 does also.
