 No error messages on the screen, except for "530: Login incorrect".
 When login in from remote as admin (is an alias for root) I get the error:
PAM_pwdb[4227]: authentication failure; (uid=0) -> admin for ftp service
in /var/log/messages.
 When login in as leonard I get:
ftpd[4252]: FTP LOGIN FAILED (virtual host access denied) for ..., leonard
 I get the same (FTP LOGIN) error when loging in locally with leonard or 
admin.

 Yes.

> Can you ftp from the machine to itself?

 No, not as any user. Anonymous (username ftp) goes fine.
