Greetings everyone.

First, thanks to everyone that helped me out with the NFS mount
questions I had.

Now, onto the next problem.

I've got a RH 6.2 box running the default kernel. Its primary function
is that of a fax server. The fax software that we use is VSIFax, which
only supports up to 6.2. Our main application that sends the faxes
resides on an old NCR Unix box. In order to send faxes from that system,
the file is generated on the NCR box, rcp'd over to the fax server, then
an rsh command is executed. Everything seemed to be working well until
yesterday.

At around 1 pm, all the rsh commands are showing up in the error logs as
Connection timed out. The rcp commands went through with no problems.
And obviously, since the rsh command never executed, the faxes all
failed.

I was telnetted into this machine yesterday afternoon doing some work on
some Samba shares (the box's other function), but didn't notice any
networking problems at all.

The day before, some of the rcp commands were bombing out. But it wasn't
a global thing and I chalked it up to a networking bottleneck, since
there were a ton of faxes that were being sent out by different users at
the same time.

Here's my hardware situation.

Compaq Proliant ML350
Cpq Smart Array controller with 4 18G hard drives in a Raid 5
configuration.
Intel EEPro 100 network card
Rocketport 4 port serial card (4 RJ45 ports, 3 connected to modems for
faxing)

Software:
RH 6.2 with default 2.2.14 kernel
NIC is using the eepro100 module that came with the kernel.

I have tried to update to the latest e100 module from the intel site,
but got a ton of unresolved symbols when I ran insmod.

I notice that when the system loads the eepro100 module automatically,
it's listed as autoclean. Is this a factor?

Does anyone have any idea what's going on with this thing? Would a
kernel upgrade (either to 2.2.18 or 2.4) help? My company is in the
wholesale business, and the fax ability is essential to daily operations
(and hence, my job).

Thanks in advance,

Wayne Stout
