Hi,
I just got a new IBM laptop. In the BIOS it reads 700 Mhz it is a Intel
PIII. As it was advertised. However, in /proc/cpuinfo it reads 546Mhz. What
gives? I have never come across this dicrepency before on any of my systems!
Although this is my first laptop experience with Linux.
I find it hard to believe that RH 7.0 Linux could be this far off. Am I
right? I thinking that IBM cold have hard coded the BIOS to read 700Mhz. It
is my understanding that Linux gets its hardware info like the CPU speed
directly from the BIOS. Is that right what do you guys think?
I talked to IBM tech support they say that its Redhat that is wrong and they
don't support it. So my only option is to re-install Caldera 2.4 which came
pre-installed. However, IMHO, its going to report the same speed.
Would love to hear your opinions.
Thanx
CM
