FYI: Successful install of kernel 2.4.0 & XFree86-4.0.2-0.2

This report is for those who have been considering upgrading and have
been undecided because of possible "unknown" issues which might arise
(or... to call it what it was in my case... fear that I might break my
shit!:-).

I installed the rawhide RPM's for the 2.4.0 kernel and XFree86-4.0.2-0.2
into a fully updated RH7.0 machine and everything just rocks... there
was a minor issue with the kernel... I run and boot off of IDE disks...
The only SCSI is simulated so that my cd-burner will work... On the
first 2.4 boot-up after install I got a vfs kernel panic. I fixed it by
running mkinitrd and all is well! I suppose I could find and fix the
problem but a ramdisk is simple and doesn't bother me as a fix! :-)

On the performance side I noticed an immediate, significant increase in
speed for the machine (nothing scientific but the machine "feels" 25%
faster). I will be testing some 3d games in "X" when I get time and will
report any troubles/performance increases I note. I have Heavy Gear II
and SOF installed so I'll check 'em out when I can.

Here is some info on the machine:

in normal operation. Can you guess which disk I run Linux on? :-)
