The port depends on how the system checks passwords.  So you want lnp.
But if you want to check how the version you have was built, you can
install the source rpm and look at the spec file.  For that matter, it
should be fairly easy to modify the spec file for the new version of
Pine, and build an updated rpm, and upgrade pinne that way.
