Hello all, after my long absence I'm back on the list. It's good too see the
old (no offense) Linux gurus still on the list, and I can see a lot of new
names. I have a lot more time available now, so I will spend time reading,
questioning and answering mails as I used to.

Now for a strange question:

I have somebody using RedHat 5.2, and has successfully installed squid. I've
helped him set up his squid.conf and client PCs. Something is now happening
to him that I've never seen before. Upon first running, squid ofcourse tells
him to run it with the -z option to create the swap directories. But when we
do this, we get permission denied errors??? We're loggin in as root, so I
can't see why. I would say squid hasn't got the right permissions when it
runs, but I don't know how to fix.

What we have tried:

Creating and deleting files in the /var/spool directory - this works fine
Starting Linux in single user mode, umounting /var and running 'fsck /var'
to check for any weird errors but it's clean.

So: The problem must lie with squid - anyone know any way to fix?

P.S. Merry XMas everybody!
