On Tue, 19 Dec 2000, David Talkington spewed into the bitstream:

DT>Hi folks --
DT>
DT>I searched the archives, and didn't find any mention of this issue, so
DT>I'm posting my findings in case it saves someone else some grief. My
DT>apologies if it's a known issue that I've missed.
DT>
DT>I discovered that Apache 1.3.14 refused to compile on my new Red Hat 7
DT>system, using the same configure options that worked well on all my
DT>6.2 installations. The --enable-module=most flag was the trouble, and
DT>it appeared to be failing while trying to build mod_auth.
DT>
DT>I rebuilt one of my two RH7 machines to include just about every
DT>library available, and Apache compiled fine on that one. I diff'ed
DT>the results of rpm -qa on both machines and started playing around,
DT>and finally tracked it down to the db3-devel package. It apparently
DT>isn't installed by default when the development package group is
DT>selected. Adding it to the troublesome installation fixed the
DT>problem.
DT>
DT>Hope this helps someone.
In a related instance the db3 rpm broke postfix between 6.2 and 7.0. I
patched it to start with and then postfix' author fixed it in the
source.
