This is something that's puzzled me for ages. If I want to know which
hardware driver a system is using for a network card, I usually cheat by
running lsmod. But now I'm working on a machine where the network
drivers aren't modules, I'm building a new kernel for it, and I don't
know how to query the system to find out what kind of network card it
has.

I've looked around in /proc, but I can only find the NIC referenced as
eth0. Does anybody know where eth0 is mapped onto a specific piece of
hardware?

Thanks,
-m
