dunno if its related..but i'm having issues with bzImage after having done a
low-latency patch for my 2.4.0-test9 kernel...maybe I should switch to test11?

what you describe to be almost sounds like error in the makefile.........??
try a different kernel then again I"m no kernel expert by any means........
