I am trying to write an init script for starting the jabber server. I would
like to write this script in a way that is similar to the other init scripts
in the redhat distribution. I have looked at the documentation and at a few
of the other scripts, but have had no luck getting the server to start. (I
can however shut it down.)

I believe the problem is that jabber does not return to the prompt when run,
but rather requires you to place and & after it to make it run in the
background.

Does anyone have any suggestions in terms of how to make the server start in
the init script? I am trying to learn shell scripting so if you do give
example please explain or point me to docs so I can learn more.

Thanks,
Chad
