Several large organizations use postfix (like reportedly Compaq), which
was developed at IBM. Several ISPs use qmail.
Both are known to compile on most Unix platforms.
I think both meet scalability and cross-platform deployment requirements,
though qmail may have the edge as being deployed in more ISPs and thereby
filling the world with more qmail support for high volume relay servers.
