Well I looked at NetCat and NetPipe, but at first blush it looks like 
they aren't what I need at all.  They appear to be tools for creating a 
simple pipe-like connection across a network; I need a tool that will 
allow a machine on a non-routable subnet to forward a port outside to 
some other box.

ssh -g -R does this reasonably well, it's just that in our present setup 
it isn't reliable, so I either need some other approach or I need a way 
to babysit ssh so that it stays healthy.
