rm -f /etc/rc.d/init.d/$FILENAME

But in many cases you don't want to do that.  Better to just reorganize 
the symlinks that point to the file from the various /etc/rc.d/rc#.d/ 
directories.   There are nifty tools to make that easier (tksysv is one) 
but it's a good idea to understand the mechanics of what's going on.  If 
you like, bump me again and I'll give you Verbose Mikey's Guide to 
System V Runlevel Management; I'm not actually aware of a good online 
source that covers it although I'm sure there must be many.

Reading the init(8) manpage couldn't hurt.
