Thanks, but I think I phrased my question poorly. We're set for mail;
what we really need is the knowledge-sharing parts of the picture;
common calendar/scheduling, project management, that sort of thing.
We've tried to get the calendar server for StorOffice to work, and had
wretched luck. I used MeetingMaker at my last job, hated it, and
there's no Linux version ready yet anyway. And Notes itself is overkill
in more ways than one.
Wherever possible, I try to find open source tools in preference to
comparable or even superior closed software, provided the open tools
will suffice, so I tried looking at ToutDoux for project management, but
had to give the nod to M$ Project with VMWare as a more mature and
usable solution.
So at this point I'm just casting around for other stuff to try. In
particular, if anybody happens to know what became of the attempt at a
GPL'ed Notes knockoff, I'm all ears.
Recommendations for approaches toward a home-rolled solution are welcome
as well. We're a Java development shop, our plate is full right now but
we might be able to put some resources toward an integration project
(say, coupling a database and some easy-to-learn front end tools) if it
means that there's a robust information-sharing infrastructure waiting
at the other end, sooner rather than later.
