I certainly have DHCP working at a number of sites. I have it
working with my own DHCP servers as well as cable modem/broadband DHCP
and working with Windows DHCP servers.
You say "My pump of dhcpcd are"... Ok... Failure to parse
that statement. Are you using pump (which, I believe is RedHat only)
or are you using dhcpcd? They are not the same program at all.
Since this is a RedHat list and you mention pump, which I think
is only on RedHat distros, I'll assume that you have switched from SuSE 6.3
to RedHat and found pump is not doing the job that dhcpcd use to do for
you on SuSE. What version of RedHat are you running? 7.0? While others
have managed to get pump to work and renew leases on RedHat 7.0, I found
it to be a disaster. While it seem to work OK for me on RedHat 6.2
installs, 7.0 would drop leases and leave systems orphaned until you
reset the interface from the console. Others have reported that pump
(of many versions) can not renegotiate a new lease (a real problem on
broadband when the IP address changes) and core dumps and fails when it
trys.
My solution to the problems with pump have been to switch to
dhcpcd. So far, I have yet to run into a version of pump that did not
have some problem, one way or the other, or was missing some feature
that dhcpcd had and I needed.
