Hi, all.

Right now our NIS setup uses the host server's own local config files
for the map sources -- /etc/passwd, /etc/shadow, and so forth. I'm
trying to migrate that so that the sources live in /var/yp/src, but I've
run up against one problem. How to maintain the shadow files?

"pwconv" is hard-wired to write to /etc. I could rewrite it, I suppose,
but that sounds like a job for the experts.

Does NIS handle this itself somehow? Am I missing something? Where to
RTFM?

Additionally, how hard would it be to hack Red Hat's /usr/sbin/adduser
program to be NIS-aware?

Thanks,
-m
