Pretty sure these are ISA NICs. Typically, ISA won't be auto-detected 100%.
You'll need to:
1) Set some jumpers to a specific IRQ/IO
or
2) Get the current config by using a DOS config diskette (or installing
Windows), if jumperless.
Then try to load 'insmod 3c509 irq=X' to see if the module will load.
That's a good start...
