DVD illusive dream

I finally have given up on the idea of having any version
of linux supporting DVD. I have tried the latest dxr2
from Opensource for the Encore drive that I have. At
best I get an image with no sound, with DVD playing
a little too fast and the video of poor quality.

Anyone know if something is being worked on in this area?
