Hiya - I just noticed that over the past couple of weeks apache has
been logging all hits as ip addresses rather than domain names.
Apache was working fine logging domain names whenever possible - but
now it only lists domain names for ips listed in out /etc/hosts
file...

if I take the ips logged by apache and do nslookup on them on the
server apache is running on the do resolve to a domain name... so I
know that that server can determine the domain names - just that it
seems apache decided not to any more!

can someone hypothesise what's going on here... and may be suggest a
place where I should be looking for answers to this conundrum! I have
been erasing a few "unecessary" packages off the server to improve
security... I'm wondering if that has anything to do with it?

TIA - dan.
