I am wondering if it is possible to share a disk array on either side of a
firewall? for example see the diagram below.
INTERNET
|
---------- ------------ ------------ ----------------
| WEB |----| FIREWALL |---| INTERNAL | NFS | NOVELL OR NT |
| SERVER | ------------ | WEB |-----| SERVER |
---------- | SERVER | ----------------
\ ---------- ------------
\ | SHARED | /
---| DISK |---
| ARRAY |
----------
My First question is does anyone know of a disk array system that would
allow the volume to be mounted on two systems at the same time. If all
internet traffic is blocked excluding web and email services would this
provide a secure method of sharing the drive with a machine inside the
firewall and out. My thought was doing something like this would provide a
limited security problem since no network access is share between the
internal and external machines. The security of the data is only as secure
as the external machine, but if compromised should not allow access past the
firewall. This would allow us to map the web volumns when the users log into
the server. Does anyone have any better ideas this was just a quick thought
and I have not investigated the possibilities at all.
