Hi, Eddie!
I would bet it is an XFree86 issue. I have a Gaphics Blaster Exxtreme
(Permedia 2) with a NEC Multisync XP17 that works wonderfully under the
XFree version that comes with 6.2, but crashes in less than five minutes
with the XFree version that comes with 7.0.
No idea how to solve this. I downgraded back to 6.2.
