That is exactly what I have done in the past with no problem. I usually set
aside about 15 megs for /boot and then install the Win9x partition and then
use the rest of the drive for Linux.

Hello all...
This coming weekend I am going to help assimilat... err..
help some friends set up a dual boot system. They are
using a large HD (About 45 Gigs). They want to use 20
for Windows 98, 20 for a fat32 data drive, and 14 for
RedHat Linux 6.2.
I've done dual boot installs before and haven't had any
trouble, but the last time I tried to do this on their
machine, RH 6.2 complained about installing beyond 1024
clusters. Unfortuantely, I don't think there is any
other way I can do this.
I usually install in the following order:
1. Windows 98
2. RedHat with LILO in the mbr because it works
easily.
This has always worked for me before, but I dont usually
allocate a lot of space to Windows.
Is there a way I can install RH 6.2 first, maybe with /boot
residing below 1024 clusters, then / gets mounted near the
end of the drive? Then I can install Windows 98 between
/boot and /?
Anyone else ever run into this problem? Is it BIOS related?
This is an older machine. I think 1996 was the vintage. I
looked at the LILO-Multiboot HOWTO, but that didn't seem to
address this issue.
In my mind, it's not a question of "can it be done", it's more
a question of "how do I do it"?
