Typically, identd runs as a constantly running daemon, rather than
being started via inetd (or, in this case, xinetd)
You should see in your /etc/rc.d/init.d directory a file called
identd. In your /etc/rc.d/rc3.d (or rc5.d) directory, you should see
a file, starting with either a K or S, which also contains the name
identd. Assuming the existence of said file with an S in the front,
identd should already be running, and you shoul be able to easily
forward port 113.
To test for the running of identd, as well, you could always just
issue:
ps ax | grep ident
at a command prompt. You should find that it lists somewhere between
3 and 6 instances of "identd -e -o" in the process list.
