a cp -R * / and saying yes to all the overwrites installed everything ok.
The docs indicate that the modules will be installed in
/lib/modules/version/pcmcia but it was not. What do I have to do during
config to get the installation to work rather than the /var/tmp tree?
Anyway it is working now.
