FWIW, in the Sun world these are available as add-on services. Sun resells
two products that I know of, "Solstice DiskSuite" and "Veritas Volume Manager",
the latter being the "higher-end", more featureful (and more expensive) of
the two.
Unless you're attached to some sort of organization that has a licensing
deal for these packages, though, they're both pricey.

Here again, YMMV; some people prefer to compile packages locally rather than
using prcompiled packages, particularly for "production grade" server
systems, so the the fact that Sun's packaging system sucks rocks won't make
much difference for those people.
