on the server, did you enable the nfs service (i.e. in your /etc/rc.d/rc#.d
is one of the files soft link'ed to ../init.d/nfs) ?

if no, then run tksysv, and enable both "start" and "stop" for "nfs"
in at least run levels "3" and "5".
