CB,
A beta release of a stable kernel included with a beta distribution is
hardly the same as a beta of new kernel (yet to be declared stable and some
say should still be using the 2.3.x designation) included with a public
release. Apples to oranges.

Why not? They've done it before -- IIRC shipping a kernel they've called
2.2.14 with 6.2beta before it had received Linus's blessing.
