YES INDEED the howto's are not always written clear enough i find for the
average user.....:( but thank goodness
there are so many  excellent ML's such as this one available.......:)


anyway the rpm's  are what you install ( came with your cd set )  to be able
to compile your own kernel ie:make changes you want.....but as of i believe
kernel 2.2.14? or so recompiling isn't usually necessary as you just use
appropriate modules if need be and is much simpler for newbies which is the
desired affect of course going into a user-friendly OS.....

i'm not a veteran at this but i offer this at least as an assistance for
now.........
