  I finally solved the problem at midnight.  It seems to have been a wierdly
obscure interaction between exim and the reiserfs.  The exact same config that
worked perfectly on an ext2fs, broke on the reiserfs until I told exim to not
check inodes. After that, the dam broke and pent-up email poured in. :-)
