If I were you, I would do a custom install.  Just select the features you
need and you should be fine.  The custom install, if I recall correctly,
starts out with the packages of a gnome workstation install already
selected.  You can then select the server packages you want to add.  During
the install you can get a bit of info on what each package provides as well.
Getting set up with your ISP is probably easy enough.  Once you're up and
running, you can use a number of tools to get that going.  The control panel
has a tool to set a link from /dev/modem to the right ttySx to use your
modem.  Then you can use netcfg, also on the control panel, to set up a
connection via your modem.  When you get installed, give these tools a try.
If you need more info, just ask.

  I can't really help much with plip or the zip drive, as I haven't any
access to those devices.  I can read up on it, but others can help you a lot
more there.  Hope this helps.
