As long as the NIC (or built-in DSL adapter) is supported under Linux, you
should be fine.
I have installed (RedHat) Linux to a more than a few
Presarios. Ironically, while the Windows 98 'SE' did install and run fine,
Windows 95, NT, and/or 2000 didn't install on all of them. Compaq's tech
support was very unhelpful when I asked for help installing W2K on
one of my Presarios ... they told me flatly that drivers didn't exist and
might never exist for my model. On the same machine, RedHat runs fine
(though I've never attempted X).
