Whaddaya wanna know? I use it all the time. Try "whois
<domainname.com>@<registrar>" For example, do a "whois
dungeonbbs.com" and you'll get the following:
[john@slave1 john]$ whois dungeonbbs.com
[whois.crsnic.net]
Whois Server Version 1.3
Domain names in the .com, .net, and .org domains can now be registered
with many different competing registrars. Go to http://www.internic.net
for detailed information.
Domain Name: DUNGEONBBS.COM
Registrar: TUCOWS.COM, INC.
Whois Server: whois.opensrs.net
Referral URL: www.opensrs.org
Name Server: NS1.HIGHERTECH.NET
Name Server: NS3.HIGHERTECH.NET
Updated Date: 04-aug-2000

The Registry database contains ONLY .COM, .NET, .ORG, .EDU domains and
Registrars.
Notice the "whois server" there? That's what you need to
put in after the "@" symbol. i.e. "whois
[EMAIL PROTECTED]" and it'll give you all
the info you need. :-)
