I would like to invite some of the redhat list members to join us on the
"ultimate" adventure.....Defining, designing and builing the ultimate
textbook for kids around the world. We would like to state that this
device is intended to use open source software and be on an open
hardware platform.

The list is through egroups, and subscription is with this address:

The list server page is here :

We have about 35 members on the ebook device list thanks to Linux World
Expo. I would like to start a new round of discussion with the hope we
can quickly bring it to a point that there are subgroups to handle
different elements of the device.

Right now, with the advent of the new American school year, there are
lots of announcements regarding devices that perform some of the desired
tasks, but I do not feel there is a comprehensive device as of yet.

The ebook-device, as I envision it right now is a portable device that
has the folowing elements:

  1. It contains the full contents of all textbooks used by the student
       in electronic form.
  2. It allows for the upload and download of homework by the
       instructor.
  3. It allows the student to complete all "normal, written type"
       homework on the device.
  4. It is fully connectable in the classroom, and fully interactive as
       a teaching aid.
  5. It will be connectable to the students home computer for acess from

       there.
  6. It will use a next generation touch screen allowing the screen to
       effecively become an input device.
  7. It will be be useable worldwide as a standard, and can connect in
the same form fromMunich, to Tokyo, To Moscow, To Apple Hill....

  8. The device will be open source and open platform.

     Thanks for your help here
     Bill
