Hi folks,

I'm about to tar my directory tree, repartition (include a new drive) and
then restore. Being careful (TM) I used tar to make an archive of the /lib
tree and then extracted the directory tree to a new partition. I thought
that would give me a good sampling of what I was in store for. I found 2
things:

First, links to non-existent files show up as broken (of course). I'll
have to watch for these after the extraction is finished. Second, while
doing the extraction, I got the following error:

#tar -xzf lib.tgz
tar: Removing leading `/' from member names
tar: lib/ld.so: Cannot link to `/lib/ld.so.1.9.5': Invalid cross-device link
tar: Error exit delayed from previous errors

What does the error "Invalid cross-device link" mean? I understand the
rest of the tar messages.

TIA,

Mark
