Thanks to both Hal B and Coolcrew who sent suggestions on getting my 3c590 ethernet card to be detected by rh6.2 properly even though their suggestions weren't what solved my problem. The solutions was to return the BIOS to all of the default settings. there is a selection in my BIOS that does this. My card now sees the network fine.
